I think I have always been a creative person. When I was young, I loved to do things like draw, dance, rearrange furniture, and set a pretty table. Unfortunately, my family did not have the finances to send me for formal lessons, but I continued to draw. I had gotten pretty good and decided to try pursuing art in college. My first year was great; I loved all my classes and did well. The next year, I started taking advanced classes in art. In one of my classes, after turning in a project, the teacher wrote in big letters that my drawing was TERRIBLE. This was a crushing blow to me. I really thought I was going to be able to pursue an art career, and that one awful word from my professor (shame on him) pretty much ended that for me. If I had been more confident, stronger, or more knowledgeable about other types of art, I probably would have stayed the course. I made the decision to leave school after two years. So, I moved back home, got a job as a waitress, taught aerobics classes, and went back to school. It was during this time that I met the love of my life. We married and had two wonderful boys. I was extremely happy, but something was missing. It wasn’t until we needed a dining room table that I figured out what it was. We found a table on Craigslist and took it home. The problem was I had no idea what to do with it. With two young children, I did not have the time to strip the table, so I looked up how to paint furniture and Annie Sloan Chalk Paint popped up. That was all the inspiration I needed. Suddenly I was creating again, and it felt amazing. I started filling my home with my furniture creations and had so many people asking me how I painted my furniture that I started a blog. The goal of my blog was to inform, inspire, and help others find their creative selves. I wanted to help them fill a void they might not have known was there until it was full again.
